All gardeners are already doing something that helps the environment enormously; gardening! However, there are a broad range of methods that gardeners can use to ensure they make a positive contribution to the environment.

Doing your bit for the environment will help safeguard the earth for future generations, whether they are gardeners or not. Environmentally friendly gardening doesn’t mean you have to bend over backwards; simple techniques and methods such as recycling waste matter is a great way to replenish your garden and help mother nature.
When protecting your garden...
...from intruders (furry or human!), you probably don't give the wood you're using a second thought. However, if you're interested in having high quality fencing that also helps protect the planet then you should make sure the wooden fencing you choose is from a managed forest, and that the paint used is also environmentally friendly with no solvent contributions to the atmosphere, making water based paints virtually odourless, causing no respiratory issues!
Get the kids involved
Are you looking for a way to keep your kids busy? Perhaps you're interested in teaching your children about how to look after the environment? Gardening is the ideal solution; not only is it a fun activity for the entire family, it can actually save you money if you decide to grow vegetables and other useful plants for the home - and you never know...the kids might actually eat the vegetables if they have grown them! Another great way to educate your children about the environment is to feed the birds in your garden - showing your kids that wildlife should be protected, not abused.
Save money...
...and time by looking after your garden the way you look after your home. Why spend money on electricity for garden lights when you can get hold of solar powered garden lights? The same goes for your garden design; if you're planning on taking control of your garden and making use of it, then you should consider finding out what the best eco-friendly garden designs are - to save you both time, energy and money.
